Coachella Style

To kick start the festival season, nothing signifies the beginning of summer quite like the Coachella Music Festival, with the chance to see so many of our favorite bands in one place. YES, festival season is finally here! And nothing gets us ready for summer quite like the hipster extravaganza that is Coachella. The fact I am sat indoors watching the rain pour down outside it a totally different matter.So, when Mulberry invited key festival goers to capture Mulberry’s poolside party to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary, you can only image the style. 

My favourite easy going style icons were out in force, with Kate Bosworth looking as easy-breezy as ever in a vintage shirt draped over a black vest and matching denim cut-offs, teamed with khaki ankle boots and a chunky belt. Diane Kruger went matchy matchy with her Joshua Jackson by wearing a blue stripey dress that co-ordinated his tee. (Far too many hot couples floating around) Meanwhile, Florence Welch was seen swooshing about in a floaty maxi dress before changing into a Hannah Marshall bodysuit to perform. And in true hippy style, flower power has taken hold with Vanessa Hudgens and Katy Perry working rose garlands in their tousled tresses.

Style Crush - Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo is becoming one of the world's most watched fashionistas, seen on the front row of the most talked about fashion shows in the world. We have seen a lot of her in the UK at the moment which I love, I adore her ability of layer looks creating an effortless style. It's raw and natural and fits aesthetics whether its the Ray-Ban Wayfarers added addition or the mix matched patterns and statement heels. 

Everybody has an idea of what makes an outfit, but more often than not it's the accessories rather than the clothes. Olivia works this look by piecing things together to make closet staples that are fresh and interesting. Anyone that can create a staple wardrobe is winning. Olivia's look is feminine and playful mixed between key high end statement designer pieces together with great find from the high street like Topshop and Zara. Making her look even more attainable...

Reinvented

What started as simple handmade collages as a sort of escape reaction to working on computers for years. These are some great handmade mixed media collages by British artist Joe Webb. Using a basic rule of sourcing just two or three images Webb reinvents a single image with the objective of communicating a new message or idea. They could work brilliantly as placement designs in fashion. I love the no limitations from imagery and a pair of scissors without the technology input from photoshop and editing.

Something you didn't know about me ...... 

I studied textile design at university where i specialised in Printed and Woven Textiles that takes a sustainable approach to design, with a view to change the face of upcycled design. It was lovely to meet the team at MPDClick recently and share my design work and inspirations for future designs with them.Celebrating the use of traditional crafts, I aim to bring something new and exciting to the textile industry. “Recycled textiles often have a raw and undesirable quality so for my collection ‘Upcycle,’ I wanted to reinvent vintage fabrics by using a mix of traditional artisan skills such as screen print, embroidery and hand-loom weaves.” I create unique and individual pieces that have a strong hand-crafted feel to them.In keeping with MPDClick’s autumn/winter 12/13 trend Myriad, my most recent collection is strongly influenced by the Middle East, its heritage of craft and values of luxury and sustainability. My prints beautifully juxtapose watercolour florals with radial and geometric patterns intrinsic to Islamic design, while the colour palette combines organic tones and splashes of vibrant and lustrous shades inspired by a trip to the vibrant city Marrakesh.

My unique designs echo enthusiasm for upcycling, combined with an exceptional attention to detail, making each design individual. Watch this space for more information on my textile design work.....
